Katie Hemphill
Owner/Sr. Art Instructor
Katie was born in Van Nuys, California. By the age of three, she was already releasing her creative spirit through songwriting. A few years later, she was creating her own art books and conducting art workshops with friends. She explored her freestyle expressions through many years of dance, gymnastics, cheerleading, taking art classes, and performing on stage. By the age of sixteen, she began teaching art in a local fine arts studio. After high school, she combined her love of the arts and fashion and earned a position as a stylist in a high-end luxury clothing retail store.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art and Psychology from California Lutheran University. After graduation, Katie expanded her artistic abilities through photography and interior design while teaching art.
She then married her best friend, the love of her life and soul mate, Charles. Katie always had a special place in her heart for animals and the outdoors which led her to start a business of producing and selling many commissioned pet portraits and landscapes. With the success of this business and after many years of working for a local fine art studio she decided to follow her dreams of starting her own art instruction studio.
Katie and her husband have six amazing children that inspire their creativity. This inspiration led her to develop a unique line of fashion accessories that were sold through her online store and local boutiques a long with running the art studio for 10 years. She found the opportunity to teach art to kids and adults very rewarding and fulfilling; the one missing piece for her family was their love for the mountains. As a family, they made the decision to combine their passion for the arts and the outdoors and in 2017 moved to their new home in Colorado where they created Studio H to teach fine arts to the local community. We love our local town and wanted to be able to share teaching art on a global level, in addition to our in-person classes through the use of streaming video courses from our website.
Charles Hemphill
Owner/Media Designer
Charles was born in Glendale, California. At a very young age, he was fascinated with how things worked and enjoyed watching others build and create. He joined the Cub Scouts and learned knot tying, woodworking, and developed a love of the outdoors while earning his badges. By the age of thirteen, he discovered a joy in performing sound effects and voice impersonations. With this new interest, he was trained in operating sound systems for school functions, church services, special events, and choir cantatas.
Through his Jr. High and High School years, Charles took classes in art, photography, architecture, and mechanical design. He displayed his artistic talents through his work on the yearbook staff and in the performing arts. During the graduation ceremony, he presented a slide show compilation from his classmate’s experiences in high school.
After high school Charles attended Platt College for graphic design. A few years later he pursued an opportunity to work in the textile design industry. As the world of digital media technology was advancing, he furthered his education in website design and computer graphics from The Learning Tree University.
Charles had continued to hone his skills in woodworking and completed many commissioned works. He found himself with continuous word of mouth jobs utilizing all of his creative and technical skills. He worked freelance as an event photographer, videographer, disc jockey, and closed-circuit television operator for large venue events.
Finding true love, he married his best friend Katie outdoors in front of a beautiful tropical garden lake. It was an artistic match as together they could imagine, create, build, and paint whatever project was needed or dreamed up. They had always had a feeling and longing to work together and started two companies in art instruction and media production. Charles graduated from Colorado Technical University with an Associate of Science degree in Business Administration and earned a Video Design Certificate from the Digital Workshop Center in Fort Collins.
Over the years, through their business, he has worked as a wedding and event videographer, graphic designer, created many custom event props, invitations, wedding and event programs. As a video editor, he continues to create photo and video montages that are presented at special events and given as priceless heirloom gifts to friends and families. His editing skills were highlighted when a two-minute media presentation he created and edited of a local special effects company who won an Oscar was shown on television and during the awards dinner ceremony.
Charles has always shared the love of the mountains with his wife and their six beautiful children and their dreams have come true as they found their new home in Colorado. Studio H was created as a result from all of their previous experience and passion to provide art instruction and media services to their local and global communities.
